Dear Family,
My name is Bethany Nill and this is my 9th year teaching 2nd grade for the Fort Zumwalt School District. It is my second year as part of the awesome staff at Ostmann Elementary! This year, I hope you and I will become partners in your child’s education. Together, we have the important task of helping your child grow, learn, and rise to meet new challenges. It is an exciting, difficult, and a terrifically rewarding task -- I cannot wait to get started!
I am eager to get to get to know each of you. First, however, I would like to share a bit about myself! I think of teaching as a description of my personality; I can remember “holding class” with my younger brother and whatever stuffed animals I could round up as a child. I completed my undergraduate work and received my master’s degree in educational technology at Lindenwood University. I enjoy working with students and encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone and take risks when solving problems and exploring questions. It is my goal to push your child to stretch and grow this year. I can’t wait to begin!
Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband, Andy, and our 50 pound “fur-child” Lucy. We enjoy traveling and seeing new places. We recently visited Italy and Switzerland and cannot wait to go back! We love to visit the wineries in nearby Agusta and Hermann for a relaxing day. We are die-hard St. Louis Blues Hockey fans and love to catch a game whenever we can. We also love completing projects around the house together. I can do some serious damage on amazon.com, Etsy, and at IKEA. Andy is glad when it's time for me to head back to school! During the evening, I teach Zumba and BodyPump classes at the O’Fallon YMCA.
Finally, I love to learn new things and find ways to incorporate them into our lessons. I especially gravitate toward technology. I am continually exploring new ways to incorporate technology into our learning. This year in particular, students will be working with GoogleClassroom in a digital work space. I also use technology to stay connected with you. My hope is that this site will be a resource for you and your family. It will have information about the exciting things going on in our classroom. It also has many links to educational sites that can help you review skills! In additionyou can follow our daily activities on our Twitter feed @nillville.
I am thrilled that your child will be part of our class this year. My goal is to encourage your child to stretch, grow, and explore new things. Our classroom is always open to volunteers and visitors. I encourage you to schedule a time to volunteer or to set up a meeting to discuss your child’s progress.
